Hi.

I'm Amelia. This is a space where I figure out what I'm feeling and document trying to be a person in the world. Thanks for stopping by.

Spiritual Gardening

At best, I am an armchair astrologer, if even that (what's more casual than an armchair? a folding chair? a pool float? I am a pool float astrologer).

I find myself drawn to the mystical not for answers but for stories. Astrology and tarot have been great tools for helping craft the narratives of my life. Crafting these narratives is my way of making sense of the world around me and my place in it, my efforts to establish my past and future.

In the vein of beginning this blog, I've realized lately that my love for writing is deeply related to my recognition that, for me, to live is always entangled with the call to narrate. So lately I find myself seeking help in narrating from all sorts of sources (s/o to telenovelas and anyone else who watches Jane the Virgin and realizes that they narrate their life that way too [also s/o to Gina Rodriguez for these dancing videos on Instagram, they are life]).

Anyway, as this summer fades into fall, two astrological events have leant narratives to the events of my life.

1) Saturn left retrograde
2) Full moon in Aquarius

Let's take these one at a time.

1) Saturn leaving retrograde

Saturn has been in retrograde since March, bringing us all the fixed structures we like to help make sense of the world. For me that meant settling into a new relationship, a romanic touchstone to draw sense from. But when Saturn leaves retrograde, all that gets shaken and life makes waves (ever wonder why we all catch the train to BreakUp City together??). Saturn's like, "Oh you thought you were settled and had it all figured out for a while? No way, José! You've got growing to do." Saturn leaving retrograde is a reminder (or a nice punch in the gut) that growth comes from being unsettled. It's notice that it's time for this little life you've been growing to be repotted so it can grow bigger and better. The universe is handing you that bigger pot right now, but you have to plant yourself in it.

(s/o to Small Spells for helping me figure this one out)

2) Full moon in Aquarius

This full moon's been hitting a lot of my friends hard this month, and it's a tough one. When the moon enters Aquarius, it's a time for reform and innovation. Been thinking you need to make a few changes in your life? Well BAM! They're coming at you whether you're ready or not. The challenge now is to embrace change. We have to let go of the things that hold us back in order to break free and reinvent ourselves. Sometimes this sucks because the things holding us back may be fun friends (#heygirlhey) or pleasure habits (helloooo bottle of red wine a night) or people who give us the warm fuzzies (puppy love isn't just for puppies after all), but if we dig deep and do the hard work of letting go right now, we'll find that freedom we all seek at our core. Again, growth is hard, digging up those roots is hard, but right now the universe has got your back, giving you the strength to do this spiritual gardening.

(s/o to Mystic Mamma for helping me make sense of this powerful shift)

Basically all of this means that the end of this summer is going to be a tough one, but that it will be worth it. When things get challenging, remember that we're all under these stars together. Let me know if you need a hand.

Always,
A
